Outrageous Comedy
DROOL
Sunday, June 28
7:00pm
Nancy Kissam’s clever and hilarious film takes THELMA AND LOUISE one step further (okay, maybe, two or three) and blends in a bit of LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE for good measure. I
n her feature debut, Kissam creates a comical explosion from interracial lesbian romance, husband killing, teenage oral sex and glamour makeovers. Anora (Laura Harring of Mullholland Drive fame) spends her days taking care of her emotionally unavailable, abusive husband, Cheb, and her disrespectful teenage kids, Tabby and Little Pete. All the while she is daydreaming of an imaginary romance which embodies everything she wishes could be in her unfulfilling relationship.
Trouble brews when Anora’s new next-door neighbor, the vivacious Imogene Cochran (Jill Marie Jones of Girlfriends), pops in for coffee. The two gals quickly bond to the dismay of her family. After one too many cups of Folgers, Anora realizes Imogene is the fantasy she has been dreaming of. The coffee clutch heats up, but before Anora and Imogene can consummate their newfound romantic feelings Cheb catches the two in a compromising position, brandishes a gun and POW….no more Cheb.
The only thing left to do is leave town, so the family packs into Imogene’s purple Cadillac and hits the road for Savannah. Along the way amid a few bumps and wrong turns a new and more satisfying family unit is formed. The moral ambiguity and devil may care attitude toward issues of domestic violence, racism, sexual harassment, murder and betrayal are all part of dark and hilarious world of Drool.
